  This beautiful building, still there, on Beckler Avenue, is now the property of the Knights of Columbus. It had rooms for bachelors working at the pulp and paper mill main office, and at the woodlands division. It used to have a basketball court and a pool, the very first interior one, I believe, in the province, outside Quebec City and Montréal. The Brown Corporation mill’s manager used to present there concerts and games featuring well known artists and teams from the USA. In the 1960’s, every saturday night, there was a amateur rock n’ roll band playing for the teenagers of the town. In 1965, during the summer, I work at the main office as a stationary clerk. One day my boss told me they needed room in the basement. Twenty boxes of archives were then thrown away. I managed to keep a few pictures from the Sanmaur Depot, same series (same size, same yellow cardboard, from November 1949) you can find on this WEB site, but different views of the company’s houses and hospital in the village now closed. What a terrible loss for the La Tuque history. The town will celebrate its 100th anniversary pretty soon.
